Travel Health Insurance
Travel health insurance is a short-term policy covering medical costs that arise while you are abroad. It is mandatory for Schengen visa applications, where the policy must be valid across all Schengen countries and provide at least €30,000 of medical cover.
When it is mandatory and when it is optional
For a Schengen visa application, travel health insurance is mandatory — the file is not accepted without a policy. For the United States, the United Kingdom and many other destinations it is not required, but it is strongly advised wherever healthcare costs are high.
For visa-free destinations the policy is optional. The issue there is not paperwork but exposure: a single night in hospital abroad can cost many times the premium.
What a Schengen policy must satisfy
- Valid across all Schengen countries — a single-country policy is not accepted
- At least €30,000 of medical cover
- Includes medical evacuation and repatriation
- Covers the full period of the visa you are requesting
- Issued by an insurer the consulate accepts
If you are applying for a multi-entry visa
For a single trip the policy is priced per day. If you are requesting a one-year or longer multi-entry visa, an annual policy covering every trip in that year usually makes more sense.
Annual policies normally cap the number of days per trip. Tell us how often you travel and for how long, and we will compare per-day pricing against an annual policy.
Getting your policy through Polisigorta
Our job is that your visa application is never returned over the insurance. Before issuing, we check your visa type, travel dates and destination against the requirements.
The policy is issued the same day and delivered as a PDF you attach to your application. There is no office to visit — everything runs over WhatsApp.
Frequently asked questions
Is travel insurance mandatory for a Schengen visa?
Yes. Schengen visa applications require a travel health insurance policy valid in all Schengen countries with at least €30,000 of medical cover. The application is not accepted without one.
Can I buy Schengen travel insurance from a Turkish agency?
Yes. Policies issued by insurers licensed in Türkiye that meet the Schengen requirements are accepted by consulates. We issue them the same day and send them as a PDF.
When should I buy the policy?
Before your visa appointment, since it goes into the application file. The policy start date is set to your planned travel dates, not the appointment date.
We are travelling as a family — is one policy enough?
Each traveller needs their own policy, children included. When issued together for a family, pricing is usually more favourable.
